Welcome

La famille Barley

This is us, the Barley family.

For years we have harboured a dream to move from our home on the east coast of England to a new life in France. In December 2007 we made that dream a reality.

This blog will be a collection of our thoughts, experiences and other random items that we hope you will find mildly interesting.

But first, some introductions…

I’m Richard, 36 and I’m a consultant for an IT company. I’m married to Lisa (age undisclosed!), who, up until the move, was a teaching assistant at the local school. We have 3 children: Rosie (12), Molly (10) and Joe (8). And together we are finding our way through the maze of new experiences that make up the process of settling in a new country

  1. Already, I feel an imutable bond!
    (don’t rodents move FAST?!)

    Hi,

Linda and I are currently waiting on the postman to bring us our long promised Compromis, so that our French adventure can start.

We aren’t quite as brave as you, in that we aren’t planning to become full time French bods for a few years or so (as a coptwriter and marketeer in exclusively English, the old job doesn’t really ‘translate’!

I discovered your blog having visited Nodamnblog. It seems we are in the process of buying the cottage next to Susie’s (no, we aren’t the famous bin stealers….)

    hope to keep in touch

    Richard

  2. Hi Richard,

    Thanks for stopping by!
I think Roland was in a stupor from the rat poison I have employed in the roof, so he was thankfully rather sluggish :)

Great to hear that your plans are coming to fruition…I’m sure you’ll have a great time being Susie’s neighbours…it sounds like fun and games there every day!

Good to hear from you, good luck and keep in touch!

    Richard
